SAVE YOURSELF
I was in a holy race when God and the Devil came face to face
I was put right smack in between
When the two were going at it, my strength was gone and I just had it
I didn’t want any more of this ugly scene
I realized what I had to do, so I shimmied down and slithered through
I just lay there waiting to see what they would do
God said “leave him alone, he has to live”
The Devil said “No, he must give his dirty mortal soul to me, not you”
My head began to spin around as I laid there on the ground
At that point, I didn’t care who was going to take me
It was the Devil who brought me there, because my life was in despair
I was sure he would be the one that would finally break me
As I listened back and forth, I took the time to collect my thoughts
I decided to reason the whole thing out right then
I could be happy, warm and safe and live my life in a wonderful place
Or end up in darkness where I would never be seen again
While my mind was running wild, I felt like a scared and lonely child
Until I decided to use the power of persuasion
I prayed and prayed with all my might, to use what strength I had to fight
When suddenly, I stopped the conversation
Then God said “Go and leave him be,
For he has been saved, he is coming with me”
As he took my hand and helped me off the ground
He said “My Son, be proud, we won, but make this your final run
Embrace the goodness in the life that you have found
But if by chance you stray again, or if you should fall down now and then
Just say my name and I will be right down
Now go back to your family and your friends, and I will see you in the end
Just spread these words as often as you can
And if the Devil should try again, you just be strong and you will win
For Salvation will be yours in the end”
So brothers and sisters, hear his call, and spread these words to one and all
The words he gave to me when I was down
If I didn’t choose his golden light, I would have never won the fight
Now I must share the wisdom I have found
Try to obey his golden rule, don’t be nasty mean or cruel
Don't take things that don’t belong to you
Don’t wreak havoc, don’t bring strife, don’t set your eyes on another man’s wife
For whatever you do will fall right back on you
And that’s why I am telling you, take heed to his warning and follow through
The worst is yet to come if you don’t try
Just take a look at one another, and reach your hand out to your brother
Walk tall and proud and keep your head up high
None of you are here to stay, so feel around and find your way
The path you choose will lead you to your fate
So think about what you just heard, and I hope you hear my words
If you want to change, remember it’s not too late
